My problem is an interesting one. I downloaded vista and installed it on an extra IDE hdd, I liked it. So I decided I would install it on my SATA drive and try using it for awhile. Like so many others out there i experienced the 80070017 copy error during install. Eventually, I ended up putting the IDE drive back in as a master and installing to the SATA drive from Vista. Here is where my problem comes in, The BCD stores are all on the IDE drive, not the SATA drive, so when I take the IDE drive out, I can no longer boot. If theres a way to change the actual BCD files to my other drive I'd like to hear it.

Get BCD onto my other hdd
I was able to fix the problem by copying bootmgr to the sata drive, it then told me to insert the vista cd and repair startup files.

Thanks for posting your results, I was kind of curious how to do this myself. Where is the boot folder? I'm wondering if it was on the sata drive the whole time, did you copy it to the sata drive, or did startup repair replace it?
